Culture and Communication Project

Hell
o Everybody,

W
elcome in my blog aston2006!

I'm not writing this blog and all these articles only for fun... it is actually part of my assessment in "Culture and Communication". The aim is to produce a "piece of communication", here is mine! I must be the only one not making a video...

T
he original idea was to write a dictionary, in which I would have defined some words representative of me and my culture. This idea has been kept in a way, as the articles have been written in alphabetical order etc. but I wanted it to be funnier, just like me! I may have a very bad mark for this project but I don't care. I think my blog's gonna be cool!

I'm supposed to focus on the "audience of my piece of communication"... Well, my audience is I think, students who are interested in finding out what a (stupid lol) French girl living in Birmingham just like me (yeah I'm French!) can do, think and be like..." that is, YOU ! That means that you may find out if I eat snails, if I'm arrogant or romantic... Isn't it exciting? lol!

W
ell, now, just enjoy it (or not) and please, leave a lot of comments!

Thanks a lot

Marie

12B

12B

What a nice
start ! My first article is about my flat!
So, as
you must have guessed, I actually live in flat 12B in Dalton tower.

I remember when I arrived... I entered the room and I thought I was going to cry! The room was so small (I won't mention the wardrobe!) and I was here all by myself (I already missed my Mum!lol) in a country I didn't know at all, in which probably nobody would speak French. It was horrible!

E
ventually, I did not die and managed to appreciate it! I like my room, I like my flat and my flatmates (all girls!)... It is the first time that I am actually sharing a flat and in the beginning, I feared that my flatmates might be horrible and noisy (and nosy!)... I was lucky there because they are all very nice!

Wha
t is funny is that I can spy on my neighbours when I'm getting bored of writing essays or doing nothing... Well, I can't actually see a lot but the idea only of spying is entertaining! Don't lie Daltonians I'm sure you do the same!

Africa

AFRICA

I sp
ent four years of my short life in Africa... the best years of my life! I have lived 2 years in Dakar, Senegal, between 1992 and 1994, and two years in Djibouti between 2001 and 2003.

I'
ve loved living in these countries, where I've seen marvellous places and met extraordinary people. I've always thought that I was very lucky to have lived in such places in the world and to discover different cultures. Africa is still in my heart, it's like my second home. I'm sure that if I was in Dakar right now, I'd still know the city like the back of my hand, even though I've not been there for 12 years, and I'd feel like I'm home, because that is where I (well, partly) grew up.

I s
till wear those African robes called "Boubous" to sleep, and if you'd really get on my nerves, I could throw one of my flip flops right in your face (be careful, that happened a few times!) but if the "African culture" is part of mine I couldn't say. Maybe... Well, no, it is, definitely. I've shared Senegalese and Djiboutian life, habits, culture and so on. It is part of me now. And I really hope someday I will go back there and maybe for good.

Arthur

ARTHUR

A
rthur...what a lovely name! A King's name! The most beautiful name ever, because it's the name of the love of my life.

M
y little brother!

H
e was born in 1995, that is to say when I was 10. I can't believe he's not a baby anymore! Time just seems to fly! I don't know what to say about him, but he is what I love more than anything so he does deserve an article in this blog-dictionary!

Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM

As I've
said previously, I've been living in Birmingham for 7 months, that is to say since September. I am actually here as an Erasmus (ie. exchange) student.
I'm so
rry to say that I didn't really chose to come to Birmingham, in the first place I was supposed to go to Dublin... and besides I was the only student from my "home" university to come here so I was a bit disappointed and not really happy to be here.

But I w
as wrong and I changed my mind very quickly.
First, I think I'm very lucky to live on the campus. I just have to cross the street to get to the city centre, which is a blessing for a "shopaholic" like me ! lol! And I just like Birmingham: the canals, walking in the streets, window-shopping with friends etc.

B
esides, it's not like Aston Uni is awful! It's actually great! I love my translation lectures (interesting and very different from those I had in France) and of course I've met new people with different cultures etc. and that's amazing! No sorry, it is ASTONishing lol!

About people I'd like to mention two Erasmus students like me I really appreciate...
F
irst Ela, who was there when I was down in the beginning... She was my laundry-mate and I was her Ramadan-mate! lol! We had a lot of fun during the 1st term, it was great! And Pounded (but I never drink and I never send stupid short messages to guys when I'm drunk like some girls I know...). Have fun in Scotland bitch!
An
d then Heena, aka Chapati! lol, whom I like very much... Good luck with your IR essay (riii) lol!
Tha
nk you, both of you !

Wel
l, to conclude, I'm sure you've already guessed, I don't wanna leave !!!! It's going to be horrible in June, oh my God I don't want to think about it! I have so much fun here and I so like the city! Moreover I have to come back to Mulhouse and this city really sucks!
